Across the state, rural hospitals face a shortage of mental healthcare providers. At the same time, the number of people experiencing mental health crises has increased, and these patients are often forced to seek care in the emergency rooms of rural hospitals, where they face long waits for treatment and use resources that are needed by patients with critical conditions.
